NIH ODS Dietary Supplement Research Practicum

Registration is now open for the Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS), at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Mary Frances Picciano Dietary Supplement Research Practicum taking place virtually May 22–24, 2023.
The deadline to register is Monday, May 15, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. (EDT).
The practicum is a comprehensive 3-day virtual event that will provide attendees with a unique opportunity to learn from leading researchers and experts in the field of dietary supplement research. Our aim is to provide attendees with the latest insights and knowledge on how to carry out scientific investigation on dietary supplements, as well as opportunities to network with other professionals in the field.
The practicum will emphasize the importance of scientific investigation to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and value of these products for health promotion and disease prevention. We are excited to announce that we have new speakers who will be joining the event this year, bringing a fresh perspective, and enriching the discussion. We will cover topics such as:
- Prevalence of use in the United States and among subgroups
- Designing and conducting studies on dietary supplements
- Addressing challenges in dietary supplement research
- Understanding the regulatory landscape for dietary supplements
- Resources available to researchers
- Stakeholders that are committed to dietary supplement quality

- Full-time academic faculty, research practitioners, doctoral students, postdocs, fellows, and students pursuing a master's degree in health-related disciplines such as nutrition, food science, pharmacology and pharmacognosy, exercise science and kinesiology, medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, and complementary and integrative health
- Students in professional schools such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and nursing
- Health care providers and scientists with a master’s degree or higher whose work involves research with dietary supplements
There is no cost to attend the practicum.
