NINR-led Funding Opportunities

  • NINR’s New Strategic Imperative: School Health provides an opportunity to address critical gaps in research and leverage the high-profile nurses have in school health to improve outcomes for today’s children and across generations.   • RFA-NR-25-002NINR Resources and Related Research Projects in Firearm Injury Prevention (R24 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) to fund multidisciplinary teams of experts in firearm injury prevention research across departments and institutions to develop and provide research resources and support to build capacity among United States nurse researchers for rigorous, high-impact research in firearm injury prevention aligned with the NINR mission and scientific framework. Application Due Date: January 28, 2025

  • RFA-NR-25-003: Transformative Research to Address Health Disparities and Advance Health Equity (U01 Clinical Trial Optional) to fund unusually innovative intervention research addressing social determinants of health (SDOH) which would have a major impact on preventing, reducing, or eliminating health disparities and advancing health equity. First Application Due Date: February 28, 2025
  • PAR-24-061Nursing Research Education Program in Firearm Injury Prevention Research: Short Courses (R25 Independent Clinical Trial Not Allowed) supports the development and implementation of short courses to prepare nurse scientists, and scientists in aligned fields, to conduct firearm injury prevention research in support of the NINR Strategic PlanNext Application Due Date: May 25, 2025 
  • NOT-NR-23-012Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Addressing Organizational Factors to Prevent or Mitigate Nurse Burnout seeks research studies to develop and evaluate novel organizational interventions to prevent and mitigate nurse burnout which will build new knowledge and the evidence base for implementation in places where nurses practice: in hospitals and clinics, in schools and workplaces, in homes and long-term care facilities, in justice settings, and throughout communities.

  • RFA-NR-24-006: Understanding the Intersection of Social Inequities to Optimize Health and Reduce Health Disparities: The Axes Initiative (R01 Clinical Trial Optional). NINR has published a funding opportunity as part of the Axes Initiative inviting applications that address how social determinants of health (SDOH) influence health at the intersection of social statuses. This research will be rooted in nursing's holistic, contextualized approach to understanding people and their health, address the nation's most pressing and persistent health challenges with a solutions orientation, and employ innovative and rigorous study designs to inform practice and policy.

  • PAR-25-298: Research Enhancement Award Program (REAP) for Health Professional Schools and Graduate Schools (R15 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) will support small scale research grants at institutions that do not receive substantial funding from the NIH, with an emphasis on providing biomedical research experiences primarily for health professional, undergraduate and graduate students and enhancing the research environment at applicant institutions. First Application Due Date: February 25, 2025

  • PAR-24-330: Interventions to Reduce Sleep Health Disparities (R01 - Clinical Trials Optional) will support non-pharmacological interventions to promote sleep health, reduce sleep health disparities, and examine sleep as a modifiable factor to reduce disparities for other health outcomes among populations that experience health disparities. First Application Due Date: February 5, 2025

  • Academic Research Enhancement Award (AREA) for Undergraduate-Focused Institutions (R15) will support small scale research grants at institutions that do not receive substantial funding from the NIH, with an emphasis on providing biomedical research experiences primarily for undergraduate students, and enhancing the research environment at applicant institutions. First Application Due Date: February 25, 2025

  • PA-25-168: Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Institutional Research Training Grant (Parent T32) will award Institutional Research Training Grants to eligible, domestic institutions to develop and/or enhance predoctoral and postdoctoral research training, including short-term research training, to help ensure that a diverse and highly trained workforce is available to meet the needs of the Nation’s biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research agenda. First Application Due Date: January 25, 2025

  • NOT-CA-25-003: Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Implementation Science for Climate Change and Health will support implementation science related to climate change and health. This NOSI encourages applications that propose implementation studies to understand and address barriers and facilitators to the adoption, implementation, scale-up, and sustainment of effective interventions to prevent or mitigate the health effects of climate change in the United States and globally. First Available Due Date: February 5, 2025

  • PAR-25-117: Research With Activities Related to Diversity (ReWARD) (R01 Clinical Trial Optional) seeks to enhance the breadth and geographical location of research and research-related activities supported by NIH. The ReWARD program provides support for the health-related research of scientists who are making a significant contribution to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) and who have no current NIH research project grant funding. First Application Due Date: February 5, 2025

  • NOT-OD-25-023: Showcase Opportunities for NIH Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Awardees is part of the NIH SEED program which supports the participation of Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer Research (STTR) recipients at life science investor and partnering events throughout the year.
    • Companies may submit a request for consideration at any time during the year, however SEED will evaluate the match of companies to specific events only twice per year. Companies need only request participation once per calendar year. Cut-off dates for evaluation of requests: January 17, 2025 and June 6, 2025. 
  • Dissemination and Implementation Research in Health (Clinical Trial Optional) will support studies that will identify, develop, and/or test strategies for overcoming barriers to the adoption, adaptation, integration, sustainability, scale-up, and spread of evidence-based interventions, practices, programs, tools, treatments, guidelines, and policies.

  • NOT-OD-25-009: Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Availability of Administrative Supplements for Childcare Costs for Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Fellows requests applications for administrative supplements to support childcare costs on NIH-supported F30, F31, F32 and F99 fellowship awards. Applications accepted on a rolling basis

  • RFA-MD-24-010: Environmental Health Disparities Centers (P50) Clinical Trial Optional seeks to solicit multidisciplinary research, research capacity building, and community-engaged research activities on environmental health disparities and environmental justice research for populations and communities experiencing health disparities within the US and its territories. Application Due Date: January 28, 2025

  • PA-25-080: NIH Support for Conferences and Scientific Meetings (Parent R13 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) will support high quality conferences that are relevant to the public health and to the scientific mission of the participating Institutes and Centers. Next Application Due Date: April 12, 2025
  • PA-24-255: Administrative Supplements to Promote Diversity in Research and Development Small Businesses – SBIR/STTR (Admin Supp Clinical Trial Not Allowed) notifies Small Business Concerns (SBCs) whose research is supported by Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grants that funds are available for administrative supplements to enhance the diversity of the research and entrepreneurial workforce by recruiting, mentoring, and supporting students, postdoctoral scholars, and eligible investigators from diverse backgrounds, including those from groups that have been shown to be underrepresented in health-related research or in the SBIR and STTR programs.

    • NINR accepts applications on a rolling basis. However, the parent grant should have a minimum of 6 months remaining at the time of award to support an optimal career development experience for the candidate. NINR will not award a diversity supplement to a grant in a no-cost extension.

  • PAR-24-273: Advancing Healthcare for Older Adults from Populations that Experience Health Disparities (R01 - Clinical Trial Optional) seeks to advance the science and implementation of innovative multi-level health care research for older adults from populations that experience health disparities. First Application Due Date: February 5, 2025

  • NOT-DK-24-029: Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Analysis of Existing Linked Datasets to Understand the Relationship between Housing Program Participation and Risk for Chronic Diseases and Other Conditions (R01-Clinical Trial Not Allowed) supports the evaluation of the effects of housing program participation on risk for chronic diseases and conditions within the missions of the participating Institutes and Offices.   • Maximizing Opportunities for Scientific and Academic Independent Careers (MOSAIC) Postdoctoral Career Transition Award to Promote Diversity (K99/R00) seeks to facilitate a timely transition of promising postdoctoral researchers from diverse backgrounds from their mentored postdoctoral research positions to independent, tenure-track or equivalent research-intensive faculty positions.   • PAR-23-309: Health and Health Care Disparities Among Persons Living with Disabilities (R01 - Clinical Trials Optional) will support novel and innovative research that examines and/or intervenes on the underlying and multilevel causes, pathways, and factors adversely impacting the health and well-being of persons with disabilities at the intersections of race and ethnicity, and socioeconomic status.   • NOT-OD-24-058: Notice of Special Interest (NOSI): Developing and Testing Multi-level Physical Activity Interventions to Improve Health and Well-Being supports highly innovative multi-level interventions to increase and maintain health-enhancing physical activity in a wide range of population groups, including populations that experience health disparities, children, older adults, and persons at risk for mental/behavioral health conditions, and any subpopulations that can be characterized by the intersection of two or more of these descriptors.

  • PAR-23-303: Unveiling Health and Healthcare Disparities in Non-Communicable and Chronic Diseases in Latin America: Setting the Stage for Better Health Outcomes Across the Hemisphere (R01 - Clinical Trials Not Allowed) will support innovative, collaborative, and interdisciplinary research focused on clinical epidemiology, evaluation of public and/or health care policies, and validation of measurements that address health and healthcare disparities related to non-communicable and chronic diseases with the highest disease burden and mortality in Latin America and among U.S. Hispanics/Latinos.   • PAR-23-304: Interventions on Health and Healthcare Disparities on Non-Communicable and Chronic Diseases in Latin America: Improving Health Outcomes Across the Hemisphere (R01 - Clinical Trial Required) will support innovative and interdisciplinary team research focused on clinical, health services, and/or community-based interventions that address health and healthcare disparities related to non-communicable and chronic diseases with the highest disease burden and mortality in Latin America and among U.S. Hispanics/Latinos.   • PAR-24-059: Understanding the Impact of Healthcare System and Clinician Factors on Disparities in Maternal Morbidity and Mortality (R01 - Clinical Trial Optional) will support multidisciplinary and innovative intervention research to understand and address maternal morbidity and mortality in the U.S., particularly but not exclusively among racial and ethnic minority, socioeconomically disadvantaged, and underserved rural populations, with a focus on understudied healthcare factors.   • RFA-AA-24-006Model Continuums of Care Initiative (MCCI) to Advance Health Equity and End Health Disparities Among Women and Girls in Racial/Ethnic Minority and Other Underserved Communities (U34 Clinical Trials Required) supports the planning phase of the Model Continuums of Care Initiative (MCCI) to Advance Health Equity and End Health Disparities Among Women and Girls in Racial/Ethnic Minority Communities. MCCI is a multi-ICO dissemination and implementation science initiative to advance racial equity and end health disparities in racial/ethnic minority women and girls of reproductive age.   • NOT-OD-23-170: NOSI: Research Supplements to Promote Re-Entry, Re-integration into, and Re-training in Health-Related Research Careers (Admin Supp - Clinical Trial Not Allowed) will fund administrative supplements to provide full or part-time mentored research training experiences for individuals with high potential to re-enter, re-integrate into, or re-train in an active research career after an interruption for family responsibilities or other qualifying circumstances as described in the NOSI.
