Closing Soon! NIH Research Opportunities on Diagnosing COVID-19 in Underserved Populations

NIH is seeking to accelerate the development, commercialization, and implementation of technologies for COVID-19 testing through its Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics (RADx) program. NINR is supporting the following RADx Underserved Populations (RADx-UP) funding opportunities. Applications for both opportunities are due September 9, 2020.

Emergency Competitive Revisions for Social, Ethical, and Behavioral Implications (SEBI) Research on COVID-19 Testing among Underserved and/or Vulnerable Populations

The purpose of this SEBI Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) is to identify, analyze, and address the social, ethical, and behavioral factors likely to influence access and uptake of COVID-19 testing in underserved and/or vulnerable populations. These studies will assess the ethical, historical, health care, social, and contextual factors surrounding COVID-19 testing, as well as how cultural beliefs and attitudes, perceived expectations, and preferences influence the ability and willingness to get tested and participate in follow-up evaluations. Emergency Competitive Revisions for Community-Engaged Research on COVID-19 Testing among Underserved and/or Vulnerable Populations

This NOSI highlights the urgent need to understand and address COVID-19 morbidity and mortality disparities among underserved and vulnerable populations across the U.S. These projects will examine SARS-CoV-2 infection patterns and efforts to increase access and effectiveness of diagnostic methods through the RADx-UP initiative. The overarching goal is to understand factors that have led to a disproportionate burden of the pandemic on these underserved populations so that interventions can be implemented to decrease these disparities.
