New on the Blog!
Even before the approval of the first COVID-19 vaccines in 2020, misinformation and false narratives flooded social media, creating widespread hesitancy. Black young adults, especially those in the southern United States, were particularly hesitant. Early estimates showed only 42% were likely to accept the vaccine.
Lisa Hightow-Weidman, M.D., M.P.H., and Henna Budhwani, Ph.D., M.P.H., from Florida State University, recognized the critical need to build trust in the vaccines. To do this, they assembled a team of diverse scholars and community partners. Drs. Hightow-Weidman and Budhwani knew success required two things above all else:
- Being innovative in their approaches
- Being real about the rapidly changing landscape of the COVID-19 pandemic
In the latest NIMHD Insights blog, Drs. Henna Budhwani and Lisa Hightow-Wiedman discuss their NIMHD-funded intervention, Tough Talks About COVID-19. What is it? And how might it change the game?
