Working to Close the Gap in Access to Addiction Treatment: National Treatment Addiction Week Starts Today
Hosted annually by the American Society of Addiction Medicine, National Addiction Treatment Week (NATW) begins October 17, 2022. NATW is dedicated to raising awareness about the critical gap in addiction care and treatment, as well as the urgent need for clinicians in training to enter the addiction medicine field.
Motivate others in the medical community to treat addiction: Share your story!
It’s important to remind future providers that they will see patients with substance use disorders, regardless of the specialty they choose. And hearing from you—a practicing clinician—can engage and inspire medical students, residents, and fellows to learn more about treating addiction or having a potential career in addiction medicine. You can help amplify the voices of addiction medicine specialists this NATW. Here are ways for you to get involved:
- Share your story about why treating addiction is important. Visit the NATW website to easily record your video and join others in motivating your colleagues to treat addiction.
- Follow @TreatmentWeek on Twitter, and like and share NATW messages using the hashtag #TreatmentWeek.
- Share research-based treatment information from the NIDAMED Treatment Resources.
No matter the medical setting or specialty you work in, improving health and saving lives is the endgame. By putting combined resources to work, we all contribute to the health and well-being of patients.
