New Article in Science Focuses on NIH’s Response to COVID-19 |

 CEAL co-chairs, Gary Gibbons, M.D., NHLBI director, and Eliseo J. Pérez-Stable, M.D., NIMHD director, and other NIH leaders co-authored a new policy forum published in the journal, Science. The article outlines NIH’s COVID-19 research response and highlights the formation of CEAL from NIH’s 30-year history of supporting community-engaged research. In addition, it highlights CEAL's efforts to build trust with communities and promote inclusion in research in communities of color.

CDC launches website to find free COVID-19 testing sites
CDC launched the No-Cost COVID-19 Testing Locator website that will help users find free COVID-19 testing sites near them. Testing sites include pharmacies, commercial laboratory sites, community sites, and retail locations.

NC CEAL video encourages participation in clinical trials
NC CEAL developed a short video explaining what a clinical trial is, why some people are reluctant to participate in them, and how study safety and review have improved. It also describes the steps a person can take to sign up for a clinical trial.

HHS releases Black History Month resources
The Office of Minority Health (OMH) is highlighting the impact of food insecurity and nutrition on common health disparities in Black and African American communities. Visit the OMH page to download Black History Month graphics and messages focused on these and other social determinants of health.
Also, the "We Can Do This" Black History Month resource page includes informational content, social media toolkits, and videos that can be used to encourage communities to stay up-to-date on their COVID-19 vaccines. In addition, the "Stay Well Community Health Hub" celebrates Black History Month with content that honors the work of Black health care workers who have been on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Funding opportunity for community-engaged and health equity researchers
Apply for IMPROVE Community Implementation Program (IMPROVE-CIP) funding to develop and test community-based implementation strategies that will improve maternal health and equity in disproportionately impacted and underserved communities. Proposals received by 6 p.m. ET on February 17, 2023, will be reviewed by April 14, 2023. Proposals received after February 17 will be reviewed on an ad hoc basis.
