New Study Provides Insight on Living With Long COVID |
|
 In a recent study published in PLoS ONE journal, DMV CEAL team researchers sought to understand the impact of living with Long COVID. The study found that participants experienced difficulty coping, restrictions in everyday activities, invisibility of symptoms and experiences, and barriers to getting and receiving care. One of the participants described their Long COVID symptoms as, “living like an empty gas tank with a leak.”

Dr. Hina Talib Hina Talib, M.D., is a pediatrician, adolescent medicine specialist, and a teen health and parenting media creative. She has contributed writing to The New York Times, Thrive Global, and U.S. News & World Report and is a spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics. She currently practices medicine within the Atria Institute.
Shawnell Damon Shawnell Damon, M.P.H., M.Sc., is the acting public health director of the Navajo Area Indian Health Service. She has promoted disease prevention programs that teach and train through public health activities and events focused on self-awareness, health literacy, and cultural competency.

New MMWR shows updated booster vaccines are safe for children
A recent CDC Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) found early safety findings from the bivalent booster vaccine for children ages 5-11 were similar to those for the monovalent booster vaccine in the same age group. The most common adverse reactions reported were injection site pain, fatigue, and headache, and these were mild in severity.

White House releases national strategy for AA NHPI communities
The White House released a National Strategy to Advance Equity, Justice, and Opportunity for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA NHPI) Communities during a virtual event on January 17. The strategy includes action plans prepared by 32 federal agencies to build on AA NHPI community priorities including data disaggregation, language access, combatting anti-Asian hate, and promoting equitable and inclusive COVID-19 response and recovery efforts.

Funding opportunity for community-engaged and health equity researchers
Apply for IMPROVE Community Implementation Program (IMPROVE-CIP) funding to develop and test community-based implementation strategies that will improve maternal health and equity in disproportionately impacted and underserved communities. Proposals received by 6 p.m. ET on February 17, 2023, will be reviewed by April 14, 2023. Proposals received after February 17 will be reviewed on an ad hoc basis.
