Celebrating Native American culture and contributions to science
Join the NIH Tribal Health Research Office in observing Native American Heritage Month. The recent lecture, “Protecting the Health of Future Generations Through Community-Based Research and Actions: Working in Partnership with the Tribes of Sivuqaq, Alaska,” highlights decades of experience conducting community-based participatory research with local Tribes. It includes a discussion of how the work has been informed by traditional and community knowledge, a summary of findings, and policy actions and interventions to protect health.

Dr. Amelie Ramirez selected as a “Cycle Breaker” for Latino health
TV personality Oprah Winfrey has selected Amelie Ramirez, Dr.P.H., M.P.H., as a “Cycle Breaker” for her work in building health equity in the Hispanic/Latino community. Dr. Ramirez, co-chair of the CEAL Inclusive Participation Work Group, is highly regarded for her work as a health disparities researcher at UT Health San Antonio and has developed communication and research models to improve Hispanic/Latino health at the local and national levels for over 30 years.

Addressing the Challenges of COVID-19: The Current State of the Pandemic

On Nov. 2, the Florida CEAL team at Mayo Clinic partnered with the HHS Center for Faith and Opportunity Initiative, AltaMed Health Services, and others to host a panel of health education experts, faith leaders, and mental health experts to answer questions related to the current state of the COVID-19 pandemic. They also discussed how to care for mental health and how faith plays a role in health decisions. The event was held in Spanish and includes CEAL Scientific Pathway member, Ilan Shapiro, M.D.
