CEAL Announces New Network for Primary Care Research |
|
CEAL has a new research network focused on using community-engaged research in primary care settings to help meet community needs. CEAL’s Network for Community-Engaged Primary Care Research (NCPCR) will help primary care providers address misinformation and disinformation related to the prevention and treatment of COVID-19. NCPCR will provide support to primary care practices that seek to build community-based partnerships aimed at identifying and implementing effective strategies to address health inequities.

Understanding vaccine hesitancy
The Arkansas CEAL research team recently asked people who had just been vaccinated what prompted them to get a COVID-19 vaccine. Many said they wanted to protect themselves, their communities, and/or their family members. Stories of friends and family members and social pressures influenced them. They also pointed to the role of primary care physicians as trusted sources of information. Two-thirds of respondents reported that they were “very likely” to ask a health care provider for vaccine information.

CDC expands booster availability for children ages 5-11
Children ages 5 through 11 can now get an updated COVID-19 booster. Children ages 5 and up can get the Pfizer-BioNTech shot, and children ages 6 and up can get the Moderna shot. The new boosters help restore waning vaccine protection and target the more transmissible and immune-evading Omicron subvariants.
