The Power of Storytelling in Public Health Research and Outreach |
|
In communities hit hard by COVID-19 and underrepresented in research, multiple approaches to storytelling are helping CEAL teams connect with residents, understand health inequities they face, and enhance their confidence in vaccines and science. The new CEAL Spotlight describes the approaches of CEAL teams from Alabama, New Mexico, and Massachusetts.

NIH supports community input on Long COVID research
NIH’s Researching COVID to Enhance Recovery (RECOVER) initiative, a national research program to learn about the long-term effects of COVID, recently added a National Community Engagement Group (NCEG) to its leadership committees. NCEG works with RECOVER study leaders and groups to guide them on the best ways to engage with participants and the community. Georgia CEAL’s project director, Brittany D. Taylor, M.P.H., serves as one of the group’s co-directors.

Staying up-to-date on flu and COVID-19 vaccines
Adults and children over 6 months can get the new flu vaccine at the same time as a COVID-19 vaccine. It’s safe and convenient! For people ages 12 or older, CDC recommends the updated COVID-19 vaccine to help protect against the Omicron variant, which is causing most new COVID-19 infections. People can get the updated COVID-19 vaccine two months after either their last COVID-19 vaccine or booster. It doesn’t matter which COVID-19 vaccine they got originally or how many boosters they’ve already received. If they recently had COVID-19, they should wait three months from when they got sick to get the updated vaccine.
