Study shows substantial health disparities for Native people in Alaska
The rate of hospitalizations and deaths of American Indian or Alaska Native (AI/AN) people in Alaska was about three times the rate for white people in that state, a CDC study from 2020 to 2021 showed. However, AI/AN people had only about twice the rate of COVID-19. The authors conclude that culturally competent public health efforts designed in collaboration with AI/AN communities are critical to reducing these COVID-19–associated disparities.
