CEAL’s new consulting service advises on inclusive research practices |

CEAL launched the Community Engagement Alliance Consultative Resource (CEACR) to bring best practices in community engagement to CEAL sites, NIH-funded teams and researchers, and community-based organizations. CEACR provides customized expertise to help ensure inclusive participation in research. It will host the first of its virtual speaker series, “A Guide to CBO Compensation,” on June 24 at 1 p.m. ET. CDC expands recommendations for second booster
You may have heard that CDC recently expanded its guidelines to recommend COVID-19 booster shots for children ages 5 to 11. Did you know CDC also strengthened its booster recommendation for adults 50 and older and people ages 12 and older who are immunocompromised? The agency stated they now recommend a second booster for these groups because of steady increases in cases, as well as upticks in hospitalizations of older Americans.

Medical center’s vaccine strategy reaches 100,000
The vaccination campaign of Boston Medical Center, home of Massachusetts CEAL, and its partners focused on addressing health disparities by delivering vaccines in churches, schools, youth centers, and other locations. In the May 2022 issue of “Annals of Internal Medicine,” they describe how they delivered more than 100,000 first doses through community and mobile sites.

New COVID-19 toolkit available for summer camp
Summer’s here and children will head off to camp soon! Share the HHS “We Can Do This” summer camp toolkit with camp administrators in your community to promote COVID-19 vaccines among staff and campers. The materials, available in English and Spanish, include a staying safe from COVID-19 checklist for families, a letter for camp administrators to send to parents, and an FAQ with answers on vaccine availability, safety, and effectiveness. Also check out CEAL’s pediatric webpage, which highlights events and resources in Spanish and English.

NIH’s All of Us Research Program announces funding opportunity
All of Us is an effort to gather health data from 1 million or more people living in the U.S. to accelerate health research. The program is soliciting proposals to support outreach, community engagement, and participant enrollment and retention efforts. Awardees will join the All of Us consortium and help the program connect with diverse communities.

Community engagement webinar available
The National Academy of Medicine Leadership Consortium hosted an informative 90-minute webinar that is available to the public. The webinar features discussion of a new resource, the Assessing Community Engagement Conceptual Model (ACE-CoM), that illustrates the dynamic relationship between community engagement and meaningful health outcomes.
