Free COVID-19 N95 masks and tests
Wednesday, Jan.19, the White House launched its N95 mask distribution program making 400 million high-quality masks free to the American public. According to the White House, these masks will be available in the next few weeks at pharmacies and community health centers across the country. This launch took place one day after the rollout of the COVIDtests.gov program. Order your free at-home rapid tests by calling 800-232-0233 or visiting covidtests.gov.

Who’s getting the booster, by race and ethnicity
CDC’s new vaccination equity data on boosters show that Hispanics/Latinos, Blacks, and American Indians/Alaska Natives are less likely to have received boosters, compared to white Americans.

COVID-19 vaccination does not reduce chances of conception
A study funded by the National Institutes of Health showed COVID-19 vaccination doesn’t affect a woman’s chance of getting pregnant. The study compared 2,000 vaccinated and unvaccinated couples, and researchers found no differences in the chances of conception if either the male or female partner had been vaccinated, compared to unvaccinated couples.

Toolkit to support emotional well-being of children and youth
The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine has developed a toolkit to help children and youth learn to cope with stress now and as they grow into adulthood. There are materials for younger children and their parents or caregivers and another set for youth and teens. The materials acknowledge that children and youth are dealing with new challenges due to COVID-19, like social distancing, changes to their routines, and a lost sense of security and safety.

Free, two-hour course on talking to parents about vaccines
Having conversations about the importance of vaccinations can be difficult. To help with this, Johns Hopkins University has designed an online training that prepares parents, Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), community members, and school staff to share information about COVID-19 and the vaccine. The course also provides tips to help them have conversations about vaccine hesitancy in a respectful and empathetic way and directs parents to credible sources of information about the vaccines. This free digital course is offered through Coursera.

New animated video, Clinical Trials: The Heart and Soul of Science, takes on misinformation
Check out a new video featuring health experts, along with singer Irma Thomas, The Soul Queen of New Orleans, discussing how clinical trials work, their importance to our daily lives, and structural racism in medicine. Louisiana CEAL and NoiseFilter, a health education podcast and animation company, created the video.

Pennsylvania CEAL work as Philly teens fight vaccine rumors

Twenty-seven Philadelphia-area teens are volunteering to talk to their peers about COVID-19 and the importance of COVID-19 vaccinations. As part of the Pennsylvania CEAL Team, these vaccine ambassadors attend community activities, like block parties and other events, to speak to their peers and encourage them to go to vaccination clinics being run by organizations like Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
