Each ingredient in the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine has a specific job. This infographic walks you through what is (and isn’t!) in the vaccine. Key ingredients include:
- mRNA, or messenger RNA
- Lipids, which are fatty, oil-like particles
- A saline solution called phosphate buffer solution (PBS)

Says Cameron Webb, M.D., “Some of the greatest success they have in addressing equity challenges are through partnerships . . . trusted messengers, trusted messages, safe spaces, trusted places to get vaccinated—that’s a recipe for community based organizations and faith-based organizations to have a key role . . . and our task here is to figure out how all the pieces come together.”
