Ensuring Inclusion

Participants in any clinical trial should represent the patients who will use the drug or vaccine being tested. NIH wants to make sure that new vaccines and treatments work for everyone—not just for some.

2015-2019 Drug Trials Snapshots Summary Report

FDA Releases 2015–2019 Drug Trials Snapshots Report

FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) has been reporting clinical trial demographic data for new molecular entities and original biologics through the Drug Trials Snapshots (DTS) program. This latest summary report aggregated demographic data from DTS snapshots published between 2015 and 2019. The data provide a summary of participation by sex, race, age, and ethnicity—globally and within the United States. This is the first summary report of its kind to cover 5 years’ worth of DTS data.

CDER’s Small Business and Industry Assistance (SBIA) will host a webinar on December 16 to go over this most recent assessment of clinical trial diversity. They will also discuss efforts to advance diverse participation in clinical trials to include relevant FDA guidance and regulations. Registration is free.
