Targeted Therapy Approved for Triple-Negative Breast Cancer

The triple-negative breast cancer cells don't have estrogen receptors (ER), progesterone receptors (PR), or large amounts of the HER2 protein on their surface.   The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has fully approved sacituzumab govitecan (Trodelvy) for some people with triple-negative breast cancer. Sacituzumab consists of an antibody coupled to the chemotherapy drug irinotecan (Camptosar). The antibody binds to breast cancer cells, bringing the chemotherapy to those cells.
