We just updated our fact sheet on colloidal silver to reflect the latest scientific information.

Colloidal silver has been promoted as a dietary supplement to prevent and treat COVID-19, but there is no clinical evidence supporting its use. In fact, colloidal silver has not been shown to be effective for treating any disease or condition. Silver has no known functions or benefits in the body when taken by mouth.

Colloidal silver can cause serious side effects. The most common is argyria, a build-up of silver in the body’s tissues that leads to a bluish-gray discoloration of the skin. This discoloration is usually permanent. Colloidal silver can also cause poor absorption of some drugs, and there is some evidence that it can cause kidney, liver, or nervous system problems.
