Are magnets and magnetic therapy devices helpful for pain? The answer to this question differs for different types of magnets.
-
For static magnets—the type often incorporated into wristbands, mats, pillows, and bed pads, there’s no good evidence of a benefit for any form of pain.
-
On the other hand, there is evidence that electromagnetic therapies, such as pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (also called PEMF), may be helpful for some types of pain, such as low-back pain and pain from osteoarthritis of the knee or hands.
