Clinical Digest: Dietary Supplements for Headaches

June 2021

 

Several dietary supplements, including riboflavin, coenzyme Q10, and the herbs butterbur and feverfew, have been studied for headaches and migraine, with some promising results in preliminary studies. However, more rigorous studies are needed before definitive conclusions can be drawn. This issue of the digest provides information on the current research for several dietary supplements studied for the prevention and/or treatment of headaches and migraines.

Approaches to Effective Therapeutic Management of Pain for People with Sickle Cell Disease

July 21 - July 22, 2021; Virtual 

This National Institutes of Health (NIH) workshop will focus on sickle cell disease pain. Researchers will explore critical gaps and research challenges as well as brainstorm potential solutions for this grossly understudied pain condition in a highly underserved population. This fits into the NIH mission of seeking fundamental knowledge to enhance health.

Save the Date: September 2021 for Methodological Approaches for Whole Person Research

September 29-30, 2021; Virtual

This workshop will focus on the methods needed for rigorous research on interconnected systems, multicomponent interventions, and multisystem or multiorgan outcomes. The goal is to identify research methods from other fields that can be applied to whole person research, as well as gaps, opportunities, and needs that could be met via new research. Invited speakers will discuss study design and methodological challenges for whole person research.
