Some dietary supplements and drugs can interact in harmful ways.

In some instances, a supplement may decrease the effects of a drug. In others, it may increase the drug’s effects, including unwanted side effects.

Some drug-supplement interactions are very dangerous. Interactions may decrease the effectiveness of critically important drugs, such as those that prevent transplanted organs from being rejected.

To avoid drug-supplement interactions, make sure to tell all your health care providers about all dietary supplements and drugs you take.
