Many people with hepatitis C have tried dietary supplements, such as milk thistle (silymarin), probiotics, or colloidal silver. However, no dietary supplement has been shown to be effective in treating this disease, and some, such as colloidal silver, can have serious side effects.

Hepatitis C can be treated effectively with medicines. Don’t use dietary supplements in place of medical treatment. If you’re considering taking a supplement in addition to medical treatment for hepatitis C, discuss it with your health care provider. Because some dietary supplements can have side effects or interact with medicines, it’s important for your provider to know about everything you’re taking.
