The National Institutes on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) is recruiting heavy drinkers for a study to evaluate the safety of an investigational drug to treat alcohol associated liver damage. If you drink more than 20 alcoholic beverages per week.
You may qualify if you:
- Are between the ages of 21 and 65 years
- Drink more than 20 alcoholic drinks per week
- Can come to the NIH Clinical Center for weekly outpatient visits for 2 months
- Are not seeking treatment for alcohol related conditions
- Are not participating in another study involving a drug treatment
- Are not pregnant or breastfeeding
Study Details:
- Seven (7) outpatient visits over eight (8) weeks
- Complete questionnaires
- Blood drawn and receive the study drug (or placebo)
- Optional liver MRI, FibroScan, and doppler/ultrasound
