April is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. Anyone might experience sexual assault or sexual harassment. You may be able to help prevent sexual assault or harassment.
It is important to reduce the stigma around help-seeking behavior. Disclosure of sexual assault or harassment is NOT a sign of weakness or failure, nor is seeking help to recover from the trauma. There is hope.

The psychological, physical, and occupational consequences of sexual trauma are complex and individualized and may include posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, eating disorders, sexual dysfunction, insomnia, substance use/misuse, suicidal behavior, physical health symptoms, & impaired work performance. PHCoE has resources for clinicians regarding DOD policies as well as care management for for patients who disclose sexual trauma.
Resources for Behavioral Health Providers Treating Survivors of Sexual Assault with Symptoms of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Some behavioral health providers may have questions about which treatments for patients who disclose sexual assault are the most strongly recommended by the VA/DOD Clinical Practice Guidelines for Treatment of Postraumatic Stress Disorder and Acute Stress Reaction. Military OneSource Family Advocacy Program
The Family Advocacy Program supports active-duty service members, their spouses, partners and families. Its mission is to prevent adult-initiated abuse, ensure victim safety and provide treatment for those impacted by abuse through advocacy, counseling and educational services that promote healthy relationships and parenting.
