Tracking First-Time TBI in Service Members 

Do you have all the current tools for assessing and treating your TBI patients? Numbers continue to climb—5,002 active-duty service members were diagnosed with a first-time TBI in the third quarter of 2022.

In 2007, the DOD charged TBICoE with reporting the official tally of service members who have sustained TBIs. Since then, we have been tracking and analyzing TBI incidents, causes, and outcomes among the military population, publishing data quarterly at health.mil/TBInumbers. Detailed reports by service branch going back to 2000 are available for download there as well. We offer a wealth of training, clinical recommendations, patient handouts, and other resources. Progressive Return to Activity Training Now on JKO

Just in time for Brain Injury Awareness Month, TBICoE has released a self-paced training on DOD’s Joint Knowledge Online platform for the Progressive Return to Activity: Primary Care for Acute Concussion Management clinical recommendation. This one-hour training offers one CEU and includes key topics from the clinical recommendation, such as the six stages of progression, symptom-guided management, specialty referrals, and return–to-duty screening. You’ll need a DOD common access card—or CAC—to access it. Those seeking PRA training with CEs can request support from TBICoE’s regional education coordinators.
