PHCoE has released five updated clinical support tools (CSTs) to provide the facts, signs, and treatment steps necessary to address substance use disorder. The CSTs are based on the 2021 updates to the Department of Veterans Affairs/Department of Defense Clinical Practice Guideline for Management of Substance Use Disorder. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, in CY 2019, about 7.4% of Americans age 12 or over had a substance use disorder and about 5.3% had an alcohol use disorder. In CY 2020, approximately .2% of active duty service members had a substance use disorder, and about 1.5% had an alcohol use disorder.
