Have you heard about our upcoming Korea Road Show? Just a little over a month away, it promises to be a hit. The Road Show takes place in dynamic Seoul on May 16, just a few days before the commencement of our Japan Road Show the following week.
While registration is now full, there is still time for U.S. economic development organizations (EDOs) and service providers to be included in the Korea seminar book, which will be distributed to all attendees (Copy deadline is April 24, please contact Heesook Baik at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul).
South Korea
South Korea is among the largest
and fastest-growing sources of foreign direct investment (FDI) into the United
States, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 14.9 percent from 2008 to
2012. The U.S. subsidiaries of Korean companies directly employ more than
32,000 people in the United States, contributing almost $60 billion to the U.S.
economy. These firms export almost $9.7 billion worth of goods from the
United States.
Fast-paced and high-tech, South
Korea is home to many companies looking to invest and expand into the U.S.
market. That's why the U.S. Commercial Service in Seoul
is convening this forum to connect U.S. EDOs with
investors. Seoul, South Korea's capital, is one of the largest
metropolitan economies in the world, with a GDP
of $779 billion in 2013. On a recent visit, SelectUSA's
Executive Director, Vinai Thummalapally, had a chance to sit down with
businesses to learn about their plans to expand into the United States and the
experiences of companies that have already invested (more here). There is
substantial appetite for investment opportunities in the U.S. market. While Seoul is a leader in
information technology and manufacturing, its business community is quite
diverse. Companies in Seoul run the gamut, from textiles to steel,
shipbuilding to electronics, and auto-manufacturing to agriculture. With
a significant portion of the Korean population in the Seoul metropolitan area,
this city is the key hub for outward investment.
