Energy Distribution & Transmission Projects at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)

The IDB is an international development bank that finances infrastructure projects in Latin America & the Caribbean. In 2022, the IDB project approvals surpassed $12 billion for projects in the 26 countries of operations in the region, including 25 infrastructure and energy projects amounting to $3.1 billion. The IDB Energy Division works to increase the region’s access to efficient, sustainable, reliable, and affordable energy in a diversified and secure manner.
In Latin America & the Caribbean, the IDB estimates 22 million people lack electricity access. The IDB is committed to supporting a just, inclusive, low-carbon, and resilient energy transition. In transmission and distribution, the IDB is developing projects for additional transmission lines, but also supporting the optimization of existing transmission lines to meet the region’s energy needs more rapidly.
