Market Intelligence

Highlights from the Intelligent Manufacturing Coffee Chats

Denmark has a long tradition for combining production with R&D and rapidly adopting the latest digitalized, highly automated production technologies. Danish robotics industry is one of the leading clusters in Europe with a focus on circular and sustainable manufacturing with infrastructure, innovation hubs and regulatory conditions to promote circular business models.  U.S. company opportunities include collaboration on IoT solutions, additive manufacturing and digital design solutions, Artificial Intelligence applications, augmented & virtual reality solutions, intelligent robotics and automation, quantum research and electronics, as well as big data and advanced analytics.

Georgia is a smaller yet favorable market in the region for ease of doing business with a history in the aerospace and textile manufacturing industries along with some new growth in light manufacturing in pharmaceuticals, furniture, and electronics.  The Georgian government is  encouraging renewable energy and automotive sector industry manufacturing companies to come to the country. For the sectors using intelligent manufacturing solutions, we see some existing opportunities.

Russia has a technology roadmap called Technet, aimed at developing and implementing Digital, Smart, Virtual Factories of the Future with focus on digital designing and modellling, new materials, additive technologies, IIoT and Robotics. Opportunities for U.S. companies in industrial robots used in automotive industry and in Metals&Mining; PLM, PDM, CAD systems and metal powders for 3D printing as well as 3D printing.

In Sweden, manufacturing/ engineering sector is a key sector and sub-sectors include automotive, steel, chemical, industrial machinery and forestry. Supported by government programs and initiatives, Swedish manufacturing industry has been moving towards digitalization and sustainable and resource-efficient production through e.g. test beds, zero-emission programs and automation/robotics programs for SMEs. Sub-sectors opportunities for U.S. companies include advanced 3D printers and materials, factory-of-future models, augmented and virtual reality applications, machine learning and AI solutions, data analytic models and industrial cyber security.

Ukraine has one of the strongest expertise in machine building among Eastern European and CIS countries. In Ukraine, U.S. Intelligent Manufacturing solutions, opportunities are beginning to emerge – from automotive spare parts production and food processing to shipbuilding and the aerospace industry. U.S. intelligent manufacturing technologies may be successfully implemented in the future in the metal working and heavy machinery sectors.

The United Kingdom manufacturing is slowly recovering from current lock down.  Most companies do not expect to return to normal before 2022 and are reducing costs and increasing cash flow with business continuity as their priority. Opportunities exist in so called ‘flexible manufacturing’ as UK manufacturers are looking to become more agile and capable to switch production lines as needed. ‘Remote Everything’ is the new desire: Cloud solutions, 3D simulation of manufacturing process, augmented reality with real time information and fully autonomous robots.
