U.S. - Czech Air Travel

There are three U.S. airlines offering direct, seasonal flights between the Czech Republic and the United States. Czechs traveling to the United States can take advantage of direct flights to New York during the peak summer season:

  • Delta Airlines has operated a flight to New York’s JFK Airport since 2015.
  • United Airlines introduced their Prague – New York Newark flight in June 2019.

American Airlines operates a direct flight between Prague and Philadelphia and plans to introduce Prague – Chicago flight in 2020.

Since all of the above-mentioned flights are seasonal, Czechs often transfer in Europe for their final destination in the United States.

Popular Destinations

The most popular vacations for Czechs are beach holidays followed by sightseeing. Top European destinations for Czechs include Croatia, Slovakia, Italy and Austria.

The United States is not a typical family summer beach holiday destination for Czech tourists, since they typically prefer all-inclusive deals that are less common in the USA. Czechs planning a trip to United States most often focus on sightseeing in the cities or national parks.

There has been an increase in business trips connected with some additional days of sightseeing. Shopping trips to New York are also gaining in popularity. New York and Florida are the most visited places in the United States, followed by California and the national parks. Learn more...

Promotional Work

U.S. Commercial Service Prague works with the Czech VisitUSA Committee on reenergizing its activities in U.S. travel promotion and launched two exciting events in fall 2019.

First, highlighting Philadelphia as a tourist destination with Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau, Philadelphia Airport and American Airlines on October 4. The event coincided with the Philadelphia Flyers and Chicago Blackhawks NHL season opener in Prague, and featured a tailgate atmosphere with cameos from three retired Czech Philadelphia Flyers player talking about their favorite Philadelphia sites.

Second, Prague Airport hosted a November Roadshow introducing the United States as an attractive travel destination to an audience of almost five hundred Czech travel agents reps. We hope to work on highlighting your destination in 2020! Join as a non-resident member of Czech VisitUSA Committee for as little as CZK3,000 (approx.$130) a year or check with us on a special promotional opportunity just for your destination.

Popular Seasons of Travel

Czechs have 4 – 5 weeks of leave annually. Additionally, there are thirteen days of public holidays (although Czechs lose them if holiday falls on the weekend).

  • The most popular time to take holidays is the first two weeks in July.
  • Children finish school at the end of June and Czechs enjoy two days of state holidays on July 5 and 6.
  • July and August are generally the busiest times for travel agencies due to the school holidays. Many people also take time off around Christmas and New Year.
  • In February/March Czechs often take a week of leave for skiing along with their children for spring holidays.

Booking Methods

In general, Czechs prefer individual travel often booking hotels and plane tickets on their own through portals like

  • booking.com,
  • letuska.cz
  • kiwi.com

However, for more complex trips to distant destinations, Czechs tend to use the services of travel agents which would apply to trips to the United States. There are around 850 insured travel agents in the Czech market.

On January 22-26, 2020, Madrid will host the third largest travel and tourism trade show in Europe and the largest in Spain. The United States has had a pavilion at this high-profile event for over 30 years. Over the years, USCS has consistently provided support for this event, including providing pre-show promotion; on-site support during the fair; and the organization of a reception for the delegates and key members of the sector.

According to the Madrid Trade Fair Authorities (IFEMA), 10,487 exhibitors from 165 countries participated in the 2019 edition of FITUR. The fair received a total of 253,490 visitors, including 142,642 trade professionals. More than 8,433 journalists and bloggers covered the show, including professionals from 59 countries.

In this next edition, the Visit USA Committee Spain will have their own U.S. Pavilion with more than 20+ exhibitors, all responsible for promoting outbound tourism to the United States.

Outbound tourism from Spain to the United States offers great potential. The number of Spanish visitors has risen from 597,000 in 2009 to 876,248 in 2018, representing the second highest growth among the top five European outbound markets. This makes Spain the 15th largest international market for the United States and contributes an estimated $60 billion to the U.S. economy.
