March 4-5, 2019: China InnoSTARS - Chicago

The China market doesn't have to be hard if you plug into the right ecosystem.  U.S. companies that categorize their technologies as "Smart City" or "Smart Industry" should consider competing in China InnoSTARS. The preliminary competition will take place in Chicago March 4-5. In its 3rd year China InnoSTARS is a market-readiness competition, that has also become a US-China ecosystem offering U.S. technology companies introductions to prospective partners in China, including buyers, sales/distribution companies, corporates, universities, and investors. The U.S. Commercial Service-Chicago will also be participating as a resource for assistance in entering the China market. The judging panel will include a mix of U.S. executives with substantial business experience in China and Chinese executives based in the U.S. This year’s Chicago judges have experience in Smart City and Smart Industry, including sensors, network connectivity, data science, AI, ML, and IoT in general. Cost: Free. Registration Deadline: February 18.  This is an invite-only program. March 5, 2019: Doing Business in Africa – Chicago

A dynamic & diverse set of markets, Africa is home to 6 of 10 of the fastest growing economies in the world. The continent has over 1 billion people, will comprise 25% of the world’s workforce by 2050, and has almost 60% of the globe’s uncultivated arable land. Unpacking Africa’s uneven progress is key to understanding where the commercial opportunities and risks exist and how Africa should fit into a company’s growth strategy. Featured speaker will be Grant Harris, who has advised two U.S. presidents on African affairs, and currently helps companies with Africa strategy, navigating policy risk, and tapping into the continents economic growth and potential. He will speak to the underlying trends, challenges, and opportunities relevant to doing business in sub-Saharan Africa, including how key governments are driving their trade and investment agendas. March 20, 2019: Roundtable with Asian Development Bank – Chicago

Local firms interested in accessing business opportunities via the Asian Development Bank are invited to a Roundtable discussion with Bart Édes, the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB’s) representative in North America. This event will focus on how to identify and pursue ADB business opportunities as well as how to bid successfully for ADB-financed projects. The speaker will also discuss the economic outlook for Asia in 2019. ADB saw the value of contracts awarded in its projects rise by almost 40% from $6.8 billion in 2013 to $9.5 billion in 2016. April 30, 2019: STOPfakes.gov Roadshow – Chicago

Stopfakes.gov Roadshows deliver critical information about intellectual property to audiences that need it most -- start-ups, entrepreneurs, small and medium-sized businesses, independent creators, and inventors. The information is presented by experts from multiple government agencies charged with protecting stakeholders' intellectual property interests. Participants will receive information on a range of topics, including identifying and protecting the various intellectual property assets; mechanisms for obtaining IP protection in overseas markets; strategies for determining where to seek protection; and the value of copyright and trade secrets protection to their businesses. March 19, 2019 @ 12:00pm CST: How to Access the Healthcare Market in Brazil – Webinar

Brazil is the largest market in Latin America and has a solid, growing, though sometimes challenging healthcare market. Brazil’s economic recovery is underway after a tough recession. Trade Missions

April 6-11, 2019: Healthcare Trade Mission to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar

The U.S. Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration will lead a Healthcare Technology & Health Services Trade Mission to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar from April 6 - 11, 2019. This trade mission will introduce U.S. firms to the rapidly expanding healthcare sectors in these three countries and assist U.S. companies in pursuing opportunities in this sector. These three countries share many similarities, including growing populations and increasing rates of chronic disease. Each government has committed significant resources to modernize their respective healthcare systems, and U.S. companies are well suited to help implement the next generation of healthcare delivery solutions needed in these markets. July 2019: Water Industry Trade Mission to South Africa – Johannesburg, Capetown, Luanda

In July 2019, the U.S. Department of Commerce will lead a water industry trade mission to Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa followed by an optional stop in Luanda, Angola. This mission will include representatives from a variety of U.S. water and wastewater technologies manufacturers and service providers.  The mission participants will be introduced to government officials, end-users, and customers whose needs are targeted to each participant’s product or service offering. May 14-17, 2019: Corporate Executive Office (CEO) Program at China International Medical Equipment Fair (CMEF)

U.S. Commercial Service is offering an opportunity for companies to participate as exhibitors in the Corporate Executive Office (CEO) Program at the upcoming China International Medical Equipment Fair (CMEF) in Shanghai, China, May 2019. The CEO Program is a trade show program designed to off small to medium companies a method of exhibiting at a trade show. June 10-12, 2019: SelectUSA Summit – Washington, D.C.

The SelectUSA Investment Summit is the highest-profile event dedicated to promoting foreign direct investment (FDI) in the United States.
