Featured Event

December 10-12, 2018: Discover Global Markets (DGM): Indo-Pacific – Salt Lake City, UT

This US Department of Commerce event will enable U.S. companies to explore sales channels and the project pipeline in the civil aviation, defense, and security sectors across the Indo-Pacific region.  Conference sessions and one-on-one meetings will allow U.S. firms to dive deeper into markets of interest and hear from experts on market challenges, sales outlook, and proven strategies for developing partners in Australia, Bangladesh, Burma, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.  Participants will learn about how the supply chain is changing throughout the region in the face of innovation and disruption; and hear how companies are optimizing their supply chain to drive sales growth.  Expert presenters will be available to help operationalize participating companies’ strategies by sharing insights on IPR, export compliance, cybersecurity, finance, advocacy, and more. Chicago Trade Specialist Departures

As of mid-September, International Trade Specialist/ Commercial Officers Michael Marangell and Allison Mello have joined/ re-joined the Foreign Commercial Service and will both be posted in Beijing sometime next year after completing their Chinese language training. In addition, International Trade Specialist Vicki Tolefree has retired. As there is currently no authorization for new hiring, their duties are being absorbed by the remaining International Trade Specialists in the Chicago office. ExporTech - Now Recruiting Companies for Chicago Southland Cohort to Start in November

Unlock your export potential with ExporTech. On average, participating companies generate $770k in new export sales. Information on $200 Billion of Chinese Imports Subject to Additional Tariffs as o 9/24/18

The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) released a list of Chinese imports that will be subject to additional tariffs.  The additional tariffs will be effective starting September 24, 2018, and initially will be in the amount of 10 percent.  Starting January 1, 2019, the level of the additional tariffs will increase to 25 percent. The list contains 5,745 full or partial tariff lines. Information on Foreign Tariff Retaliations

Information about foreign retaliations in response to the U.S. 232 steel and aluminum tariffs is available to the public online at https://www.trade.gov/mas/ian/tradedisputes-enforcement/retaliations/tg_ian_002094.asp. The site has information about when the retaliatory tariffs have gone into effect, links to the official notifications and product lists by the various foreign governments, and a retaliation product coverage matrix, which companies can use to see if their products (at the HS-6 level) are being impacted by any of the retaliatory measures

November 29, 2018: Study Illinois Annual Meeting – Illinois Institute of Technology - Chicago

Study Illinois is a consortium of Illinois-based colleges and universities that pool their resources to raise the profile of the state of Illinois as a premier international study destination.  All members and non-members are welcome to attend the annual meeting to network with fellow international education professionals and brainstorm new ideas for attracting international students in 2019.  Study Illinois is always looking for ideas, volunteers, and new board members.  It’s not too late to put your name in the hat as a candidate for Treasurer!  Please make sure your dues are up-to-date if you want to vote in the election!  11:00am – 1:00pm.  $20 for members and $30 for non-members (includes lunch). December 5, 2018: The Latest IP Issues Relating to International Trade- Chicago

April 30, 2019: STOPfakes.gov Roadshow – Chicago

SAVE THE DATE. Stopfakes.gov Roadshows deliver critical information about intellectual property to audiences that need it most -- start-ups, entrepreneurs, small and medium-sized businesses, independent creators, and inventors. The information is presented by experts from multiple government agencies whose missions advance stakeholders' intellectual property interests. Participants will receive information on a range of topics, including identifying and protecting the various intellectual property assets; mechanisms for obtaining IP protection in overseas markets; strategies for determining where to seek protection; and the value of copyright and trade secrets protection to their businesses. Presentations will also address how to combat counterfeits on international e-commerce sites and what additional government resources are available to help U.S. business bolster intellectual property protections.

November 15, 2018 at noon CST: Upcoming Infrastructure Projects in Uruguay - Webinar

Uruguay plans to invest more than $24 billion in infrastructure by 2030, including transportation, housing and information & communications. The Government of Uruguay (GoU) has approximately $5 billion still pending to be invested under the Infrastructure Plan 2015-2019, plus $825 million on 273km of railway rehabilitation. Uruguay has completed the investment in renewable energy and will focus on the development of electrical transfer grids. GoU is promoting electric transportation, to reduce imbalances of renewable energy supply. The port of Montevideo, is undergoing expansion and improvements, considering the possible building of a new paper mill in Uruguay by 2020. Cost: $40. March 24-29, 2019: Trade Mission to Southern Cone Region

The United States Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration is organizing this trade mission to Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia and Chile (Southern Cone Region) that will include the Trade Americas – Business Opportunities in the Southern Cone Region Conference in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Mission participants will attend a mission briefing and will engage in one-on-one consultations with U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service (US&FCS) Commercial Officers and/or Economic/Commercial

May 14-17, 2019: Corporate Executive Office (CEO) Program at China International Medical Equipment Fair (CMEF)

U.S. Commercial Service is offering an opportunity for companies to participate as exhibitors in the Corporate Executive Office (CEO) Program at the upcoming China International Medical Equipment Fair (CMEF) in Shanghai, China, May 2019. The CEO Program is a trade show program designed to off small to medium companies a method of exhibiting at a trade show. This program will be offered at CMEF, the largest medical equipment exhibition in Asia featuring over 4,100 exhibitors from 28 countries and about 120,000 visitors from around the world. Applications are now being accepted for 12 available spots; applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until all spots are filled. There is a registration cost of $4,650.
