Webinar - Germany: eHealth Law and Market - Opportunities for U.S. Suppliers

Germany is one of the world largest markets for eHealth. However, adoption in Germany is slower than in other parts of Europe or the U.S., due to legal restrictions and gaps in the digital infrastructure. The German government is now pushing for faster digitization, such as the eHealth law and a defined period to launch nation-wide electronic health records. With the government’s new commitment to advance eHealth, hospitals will have more flexibility to invest. The webinar gives you an overview of the eHealth Act and the digital health policy framework, and provides a look at the business opportunities arising from it in Europe’s biggest market.

Presentation - Take Part In The 2018 International Patient Day: Saving Lives Through American Innovation!

If you are a US medical device or health IT exporter, consider participating in the 2018 International Patient Day (IPD) program. During the 2018 IPD, your company can illustrate to foreign regulators, procurement contacts, and other high-level officials the personal impact your technology has on their local population.  International Patient Day seeks to build the human connection through sharing personal stories of how U.S. technology is improving lives in their country. Anticipated outcomes include increased dialogue between US medical technology companies and foreign regulators on critical issues.

We are seeking event partners for our worldwide programs.  Feedback from the 2017 International Patient Day programs around the globe showed that presentation partners gained valuable exposure to and engagement with foreign government regulators and other critical decision makers.  For a full list of event partnership benefits and requirements, please visit our Event Partner website

    Country Spotlight: Brazil

    Brazil Flag

Brazil is the largest medical equipment market in South America and it is expected to recover from recent contraction soon. Medical equipment revenues in 2016 reached an estimated US$10.4 billion. According to the World Bank, private and public healthcare expenses in Brazil corresponded to 8.5% of the GDP in 2016.

The United States accounts for approximately 30% of the import market.

For medical products, foreign medical equipment/devices suppliers must establish a local office or assign an agent or distributor to sell in Brazil.

Either setting up a company in Brazil or acquiring an existing entity can be a relatively complex option for Brazil, although the Ministry of Development has signaled an intention to simplify the process.

Companies are also joint venturing with Brazilian industries for final assembling and packaging of products. For some industries, this option can reduces import duties and documentations that are required for finished goods. In addition to that, the Brazilian Government is offering margins of preference in the public purchase of medical products for local made products.

The market for home health care products has been increasing 5% every year, and is estimated to have reached US$ 1.0 billion. Brazilian health insurance companies are responsible for paying 90% of the costs related to home care treatment.
