New Communications
Specialist Joins Commercial Service Midwest Region
Evan
Scritchfield has joined the U.S. Commercial Service as our new Communications
Specialist for the Midwest region. Evan
comes to the windy city from sunny Honolulu, Hawaii, where he served as Public
Affairs Officer in the U.S. Army from 2007-2014, and more recently served as Communications/Marketing
Manager and real estate agent at a boutique real estate brokerage. Evan excels
in external and internal communications, traditional and new media, audio/visual,
publishing, and web site content creation.
He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Pittsburg State University in
Pittsburg, Kansas and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Strategic
Communications. We look forward to a
more effective communications and marketing strategy for our agency utilizing
his considerable skill set. Evan can be

Relationship: The Impact on the Chicago Economy - Chicago
This
event is organized by the British Consulate-General Chicago, German American
Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest, and the Trans-Atlantic Business Council. An
overview of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership will be
discussed and questions regarding the agreement, such as how it will benefit
individual companies, the Chicago area and the U.S. overall, will be answered

November 19, 2015: Finding and
Conquering International Sales – Carbondale, IL
Participants
will learn about assessing export readiness, finding customers, fulfilling
orders from foreign buyers, shipping the order with proper documentation and
getting paid as expected. Our presenter will be Elizabeth Ahern, Director
of the U.S. Commercial Service Export Assistance Center in Peoria. She
will review typical export process start-up scenarios and give advice as to how
to proceed. Elizabeth will also explain how the United States Department
of Commerce’s Commercial Service can assist business owners in the international

West Africa Power Sector - Wood Dale, IL
Please
join representatives of the U.S. Department of Commerce, the U.S. Agency for
International Development (USAID), and the U.S. Trade Representative's office
(USTR) to learn about opportunities for U.S. power companies in Africa in
general, as well as specific power projects in Ghana and Benin. The latter are projects being financed by the
U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), which is a U.S. government agency

U.S. Department of Commerce is organizing a healthcare trade and investment
mission to Peru. The mission is designed to promote U.S. companies in the

hospital operation and management services, hospital information systems, and
eHealth solutions. The mission also will assist U.S. companies already

March 7-10, 2016: Education Trade Mission to Africa –
Johannesburg, Accra, & Abidjan
This
mission will seek to connect U.S. higher education institutions to potential
students and university/institution partners in three African countries: South
Africa, Ghana, and an optional stop in Cote d’Ivoire. The trade mission will
include student fairs organized by EducationUSA, embassy briefings, site
visits, and networking events in our target cities of Johannesburg, Accra, and
Abidjan. The African continent has a growing middle class, and presently spends

Arabia and Kuwait
The
U.S. Department of Commerce, along with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and
organizers of Saudi-American Healthcare Forum, are organizing this trade
mission to Riyadh and Jeddah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait City,
Kuwait. The mission is timed to take place during the Saudi-American Healthcare
Forum, an exclusive event dedicated to building new relationships, fostering
existing partnerships, and exchanging best practices between the United States

Trade Mission to Central America, May 2-5, 2016
The
United States Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration, is
organizing an education mission to Panama and Honduras, with an optional stop
in Guatemala. Department of Commerce is partnering with the Department of
State’s EducationUSA Advising Centers and each stop will include a student
fair, customized appointments for each institution as well as site visits and
networking opportunities. The education mission’s emphasis will be on U.S.

The
U.S. Department of Commerce is organizing an Executive-led Cyber-security
Business Development Mission to Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. This mission is
meant to introduce U.S. firms and trade associations to East Asia’s information
and communication technology security and critical infrastructure protection
markets, as well as to assist U.S. companies in finding business partners and
exporting their products and services to the region. Cost: $4,400 for small and
medium-sized enterprises (fewer than 500 employees), $5,800 for large firms,

14-22, 2016: Water Infrastructure Trade Mission to Singapore, Vietnam, & the
Philippines
Organized
by the U.S. Department of Commerce International Trade Administration, this
mission will introduce U.S. firms to rapidly expanding water infrastructure
markets in Singapore, Vietnam, and the Philippines. These countries are all
member states of the association of Southeast Asian nations (ASEAN), a region
that received over $78 billion of merchandise exports from the United States in
2014. The mission will provide U.S. companies the opportunity to gain insights,
make industry contacts, solidify business strategies, and advance specific
technologies. There are opportunities in all areas of water infrastructure,
including: advanced filtration, operation services, and waste to energy
technology. The mission will visit Singapore; Ho Chi Minh City, and Manila.
There will be customized one-on-one meetings and networking events with
