ABB Robotics Establishes its First North American Facility

ABB Robotics Ribbon Cutting in Auburn Hills, MI

Last month, ABB Robotics cut the ribbon on its new state-of-the-art robotics manufacturing facility in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Since 2010, Swiss parent company ABB Group has invested more than $10 billion in local R&D and capital expenditure and acquisitions in the United States, taking its U.S. employment from 11,500 to 26,300 employees in just five years.

Deputy Secretary of Commerce Bruce Andrews, U.S. Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein Suzi LeVine, Swiss Ambassador to the U.S. Martin Dahinden, and SelectUSA Executive Director Ambassador Vinai Thummalapally joined ABB CEO Ulrich Spiesshofer at the ceremony.

With its new Michigan facility, ABB Robotics joins the ranks of innovative U.S. companies exploring advanced manufacturing methods and driving the U.S. manufacturing renaissance.

The SelectUSA team was able to provide actionable information and counseling to ABB that proved useful as they considered their options for manufacturing. Deputy Secretary Andrews shared his thoughts in a blog post on ABB's investment:

"ABB’s decision to manufacture here was based in their confidence in the quality of American workers, American innovation, and American manufacturing. The fact is, there is no better time to invest in the United States."
