The IRS is hiring:
- customer service representatives,
- information technology specialists,
- engineers and scientists,
- attorneys,
- analysts,
- revenue agents,
- accountants,
- economists,
- actuaries and more.
This hiring effort is enabled by the Inflation Reduction Act funding approved in August 2022 to improve tax administration. Some of these positions will be filled using a Direct Hire Authority, which helps fill mission-critical positions quickly. Sometimes, we can offer recruitment incentives.
There are currently thousands of IRS job opportunities and we’ll continue to hire. Check USAJOBS regularly, create a profile and set alerts so the platform tells you about new jobs. Watching Come Work at the IRS to learn more.
The IRS recently posted hundreds of Revenue Agent positions (GS5 to GS14) that are open for up to 12 months. Revenue agents specialize in managing audits for individual and business taxpayers. For more information about these positions, watch The IRS is Hiring Revenue Agents Nationwide.
 Visit the IRS Careers page on USAJOBS where you can find all IRS job opportunities in one place. Then use keywords or filters to tailor your search even further.
Find in-person and virtual information sessions and hiring events at IRS Events and USAJOBS Events. Both sites offer tips to guide you through creating a resume and applying for positions. We add new sessions often so bookmark the pages and return to them often.
 The IRS Pathways Recent Graduates Program offers developmental experiences to recent graduates from qualifying educational institutions or programs. The IRS places participants in a developmental program with training, mentors and support for a career in the federal government.
Applicants must apply within two years of getting their degree or certificate. Veterans have up to six years due to their military service obligation. The program generally lasts one year. You can find IRS job announcements for recent graduates on USAJOBS using the “Recent Graduates” filter.

Applicants need to visit usajobs.gov and set up an account to apply for jobs. Specify what types of jobs you’re interested in and set up alerts so the platform tells you about new job announcements. Job seekers can view a series of four videos called Navigating USAJOBS: The Gateway to Federal Employment to learn more about applying for federal positions.
