1. Summer reminder: Review Security Summit Checklist to help secure your data Cybercriminals don’t take vacations – shore up data security before taking your vacation this summer. To help in doing this, the IRS and its Security Summit partners have developed a new Tax Security 2.0 “Taxes-Security-Together” Checklist that spells out the steps you can take to secure your computer systems and information. On July 16, the first of five news releases highlighting the details of each step on the checklist posted. Additional releases will drop through August. We’ve linked to the steps that are released as of this publication’s date. Five steps to better security:

Second drafts of 2020 Form W-4 and Pub 15-T coming soon The second early release draft of the 2020 Form W-4, Employee’s Withholding Allowance Certificate, is coming soon. A couple of weeks after that, the second draft of the new Publication 15-T, Federal Income Tax Withholding Methods, will follow. The IRS will issue final versions of the 2020 Form W-4 and Pub 15-T in November after receiving the annually adjusted values used in these products. See FAQs on the early release of the 2020 Form W-4 for more information. 3. Reminder of upcoming MeF system outage On Aug. 3, 2019, from 12:01 a.m. through noon Aug. 5, 2019 the IRS Modernized E-File system (MeF) will be shutdown to upgrade to a new system.
