  2.  Should you itemize or choose the standard deduction?

When preparing your federal tax return, you have the option of either taking the standard deduction, or, if you think you may have more qualified expenses than the standard deduction provides, you may choose to itemize. Full story.

  3.  Haven’t received your W-2 yet? The IRS can help

It’s tax time, and you need your Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement, to file an accurate federal tax return. Your employer should have sent this to you by January 31. Full story.

  4.  You may qualify for free tax preparation in your community

Free tax help is available from IRS-certified volunteers throughout the nation. IRS offers free tax preparation service through its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs. Full story.

  5.  Saver’s Credit — Contribute to your IRA by April 17

You may qualify for the Saver’s Credit for contributions you make to an Individual Retirement Arrangement (IRA) for 2017 on or before April 17, 2018. Full story.
