 Severe Winter Weather
Multifamily Owners/Agents,
Multifamily Housing Office of Asset Management in coordination with Multifamily Regional Offices and Multifamily Housing Disaster Team (MFHDT) are providing this notification for the severe winter storms that are impacting numerous states across the country. Impact information and utility status are being requested for self-reporting following the storms.
You are encouraged to follow any state and/or local guidance relative to this event. Be prepared when conditions are favorable for a specific hazard. This is the time to review your Emergency Response Plan. Act when severe weather is imminent or occurring. This indicates a direct threat to life and property. Be aware when hazardous weather is expected but it is less severe than warning criteria. While not immediately life-threatening, these conditions can be inconvenient or dangerous if caution isn't exercised. Stay informed and continue monitoring Weather.gov or a weather radio for the latest updates until the threat has passed.
As with any emergency or disaster event, HUD has reporting obligations on the impact to the multifamily housing portfolio (insured, assisted and/or deed restricted properties). Owners and Management Agents are obligated to always immediately report physical damage to a property interior or exterior that has resulted from a fire, flood, wind, severe cold, or other natural disaster events. It is most convenient if Owners and Agents proactively report. To submit your initial damage assessment and utility status information, please use the Self-Reporting Damage/Utility Survey at the following link: https://forms.office.com/g/nghhWfajXe. Please note that a notification of “no damage/impact” is needed. This allows for more efficient use of staff resources for outreach to owners/agents where no assessment information has been received and/or to properties with resident displacement and/or those that sustained damage. If damage is reported, someone from the MFHDT or the region will reach out to you for additional information.
Updated reports/information should be submitted as additional information is available concerning resident displacement or regarding the level/amount of damage sustained and/or utility status. Updated information should be sent to mf_disaster_team@hud.gov. PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS MESSAGE WITH YOUR PROPERTY (DAMAGE) STATUS.
As with many emergency and disaster events, there is a need for temporary housing for survivors displaced from their primary residence. Vacancy or potential resource information is shared with our partners that assist survivors with locating temporary housing resources. We are requesting bi-weekly submissions/updates on potential resource/vacancy information for 90 days. Any extensions of this reporting period will be re-issued. There is no need to submit/report if you do not have vacant units. An online tool is available for submitting vacancy/potential resource information, and it can be accessed at the following link: https://forms.office.com/g/BgZKAc4UCV. Please do not reply to this message with vacancy/potential resource information. There is no need to submit if you do not have vacant units.
We encourage you to revisit Emergency and Disaster guidance provided in Chapter 38 of HUD Handbook 4350.1. Other Important Contact Information:
