WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded funding to hire and maintain Service Coordinators who will assess the needs of public housing-assisted residents in addition to coordinating available resources in their local communities. Service Coordinators work with HUD-assisted residents to make progress toward their economic and housing goals by addressing educational, professional, and health-related barriers.
FSS Renewal Awards will go to 682 Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) in the amount of $109,499,266. The funding will support a total of 1,312 coordinator positions around the country. An additional $6 million in new FSS funding will go to 32 PHAs and 38 Project-Based Rental Assistance (PBRA) owners to support 70 coordinator positions around the country.
“Childcare, education, job training, and financial literacy are just some of the services to which families are connected under the FSS program,” said HUD Secretary Marcia L. Fudge, “HUD is dedicated to providing the safety net and resources necessary to prepare for the ups and downs of life. This stabilizing program does just that and more by providing supports, connections to services and the opportunity to build a real asset.”
