SAC NOFO Released for June 1 Starts
HRSA released the fiscal year (FY) 2025 Service Area Competition (SAC) Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for service areas with a June 1, 2025, period of performance start date (HRSA-25-017).

Look-Alike Initial Designation Application Updated Instructions — Coming Soon!
We will soon post updated instructions for applicants interested in applying for Look-Alike Initial Designation (LAL-ID) on the LAL-ID TA webpage. While the application will become available in EHBs on Friday, September 6, we recommend that you wait to submit your application until we release the instructions.
While you may refer to the existing instructions (available on the webpage) to start an application before we release the new instructions, keep in mind:
- Your application will be reviewed based on the updated instructions.
- You must complete and submit your application within 90 days from the date you start it in EHBs.
Submit questions about the LAL-ID process via the BPHC Contact Form (Look-Alike Designation > Initial Designation (LAL-ID)).

HRSA Announces Historic Steps to Overhaul the Nation’s Organ Transplant System
Last week, HRSA announced that for the first time in the 40-year history of the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN), the OPTN Board of Directors — the governing board that develops national organ allocation policy — is now separately incorporated and independent from the Board of long-time OPTN contractor, the United Network for Organ Sharing. HRSA has awarded an OPTN Board Support contract to American Institutes for Research to support the newly incorporated OPTN Board of Directors. Read the press release.
Opportunities and Challenges in Enabling and Advancing Precision Medicine Artificial Intelligence by Integrating Clinical Imaging with Multimodal Data
The NIH Common Fund wants your ideas to identify high-priority challenges and opportunities in developing trustworthy, cost-effective, accessible, ethical, and sustainable precision medicine artificial intelligence algorithms that integrate medical images with other patient-related data to support clinical decision-making. National Suicide Prevention Month
September is an opportunity to focus on suicide prevention. Next Sunday, September 8, is the first-ever 988 Day. This year's theme, "No Judgment. Just Help," emphasizes the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline’s commitment to providing compassionate support. HRSA partnered with SAMHSA on the 988 Day Digital Toolkit. Visit SAMHSA’s site for the toolkit and suggestions on how to use it.
SAMHSA’s 2024 Suicide Prevention Month Toolkit offers assets like social media posts and shareable graphics to raise awareness about the information, services, and resources they offer. Access it on SAMHSA’s website.

NACHC's Heart Health Hub: Your Source for Preventing Heart Attacks and Strokes
The National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) receives funding from CDC for its Million Hearts initiative. NACHC’s new Heart Health Hub houses resources for care teams, quality improvement professionals, and health center leaders looking for evidence-based strategies to control hypertension and manage cholesterol. It gives you easy access to downloadable tools and training to help you and your patients feel motivated to prevent life-threatening risks.

Final-Year Health Professional Students: Apply Now for Loan Repayment
The 2025 National Health Service Corps Students to Service Loan Repayment Program application cycle is now open! Final-year students studying to become a physician, dentist, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or certified nurse midwife can apply for awards of up to $120,000. An additional $40,000 supplement is available to physician and nurse midwife final-year students who commit to providing OB/GYN services in high-need areas.
