National HIV Testing Day

Calling All Health Heroes: Show Your Support for HIV Testing Day!

HIV Testing Day occurs each year on June 27. This year, we want to spread awareness by sharing how you – and other health centers across America – show your commitment to ending HIV stigma and promoting testing. If you have events planned for this observance, consider sending us a photo. Whether it be setting up a mobile testing van or tabling at a community fair, we want to share how you care! We may share your pictures in future newsletters, HRSA social media, and/or Today with Macrae webcasts.

  • Submit your photos through the BPHC Contact Form (General/Other HRSA > Today with Macrae: Health Center Program Updates).
  • Include name, title, and a completed Photo Release Form (PDF) for each person whose face is clearly visible in the photo.
  • Include 1-2 sentences about the photo(s) if possible.
  • Mention HIV Testing Day 2024.

Thanks in advance for your photos and for all you do for your community!

CDC’s National HIV Testing Day Resources

CDC’s resources (including free print materials) can help you get the word out about the importance of HIV testing. You can filter the resource library by format, language, audience, and topic. They also tailor resources to specific awareness days. Check out their Awareness Days page for #HIVTestingDay content!

Clinical Guidelines on the Use of Doxycycline Postexposure Prophylaxis for Bacterial Sexually Transmitted Infection Prevention

Recent trials indicate that 200 mg of doxycycline taken within 72 hours after sex reduces syphilis, chlamydia, and gonococcal infections. CDC’s new report outlines its recommendation for using doxycycline postexposure prophylaxis (doxy PEP).

CDC-supported Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) Test-to-Treat Toolkit for Community Pharmacists

Strong partnerships between pharmacists and STI prevention programs can advance shared goals. With CDC’s support, the National Association of County & City Health Officials (NACCHO) funded a pilot program that produced this Chlamydia and Gonorrhea Test-to-Treat Toolkit for Community Pharmacists (PDF).

New Research Compares Complex Patients’ Use of Health Care at Health Centers and Other Providers

What does this study add?

It highlights differences in health care use among high-cost, high-need Medicaid beneficiaries who receive primary health care at HRSA-funded health centers versus other settings. Health center patients received equal or more primary care than their non-health center counterparts. They also had fewer specialty care, emergency room, and hospital visits.

What are the implications for the Health Center Program?

The Health Center Program can potentially reduce the costly health care burden among high-cost, high-need Medicaid beneficiaries through high-quality care.

Read the published article, “Differences in Health Care Utilization of High-Need and High-Cost Patients of Federally Funded Health Centers Versus Other Primary Care Providers,” in the Health Center Library.

NIH Launches $30 Million Pilot to Test Feasibility of a National Primary Care Research Network

NIH will invest approximately $30 million in total over FY 2024 and 2025 to pilot a national primary care research network that integrates clinical research with community-based primary care. The new initiative — Communities Advancing Research Equity for Health, or CARE for Health — seeks to improve access to clinical research to inform medical care, particularly for those in communities historically underrepresented in clinical research or underserved in health care. Read the full press release (or access the CARE for Health site) on NIH’s website.
