In June, HRSA will make available $55 million in one-time fiscal year 2024 funding to all health center grantees. This Quality Improvement Award funding is intended to support HRSA-funded health centers to prepare for and implement programs and technologies to ensure high-quality, patient-level data submissions as part of the modernization of the Uniform Data System (UDS+).
UDS+ is the electronic submission of de-identified patient-level data from health centers to HRSA through automated reporting platforms. Automating UDS reporting will eventually eliminate the need for health centers to dedicate resources required to manually enter UDS data into HRSA's Electronic Handbooks, while simultaneously allowing health centers to submit more granular, specific data about their patient population. This more detailed, de-identified patient-level data will be critical for advancing quality improvement and health outcomes for the Health Center Program, including tailoring efforts to address health disparities and improve patient care.
All Health Center Program operational (H80) grant award recipients are eligible, and awards will be provided directly to grantees. Award recipients may use this supplemental funding to:
- Support UDS+ implementation, including training personnel and new equipment, building the capacity of systems infrastructure, enhancing care coordination, securing data exchange, and de-identifying patient-level data.
- Cover costs related to aligning or upgrading health information technology (HIT) systems with national interoperability standards.
- Support and provide training and technical assistance to health center staff overseeing data management/security and quality improvement efforts and/or
- Improve data and technology capabilities to support public health emergency preparedness.
