CARE funding

HRSA Awards Fiscal Year 2023 Capital Assistance for Hurricane Response and Recovery Efforts

Yesterday, HRSA awarded $64 million to 111 health centers to ensure underserved communities impacted by hurricanes Fiona and Ian in 2022 will have continuous access to primary care services during future emergencies.

“Through hurricanes, floods, and other natural disasters, health centers keep their doors open and are a lifeline to services for patients and their communities. This funding helps make that possible,” said HRSA Administrator Carole Johnson. See the June press release.

Award recipients are located in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Puerto Rico. They may use this funding for a variety of capital improvement projects, such as building flood walls to prevent flooding, upgrading ventilation systems to improve infection control, and improving fire protection and suppression systems.

Visit the CARE technical assistance (TA) webpage for award recipient information and other resources. We will host a TA webinar for award recipients:

Policy Did You Know

Policy Tip: Conflict of Interest

A health center board member can be a contractor or supplier to the health center and continue to serve on the board if the board member discloses the conflict of interest and does not participate in the selection process of any contract with a conflict of interest. The health center determines the appropriate methods for board members to disclose real or apparent conflicts of interest.

It is also a time to raise awareness about suicide prevention and share messages of hope. Here are some resources for health centers interested in taking action:

  • Suicide Prevention and Risk Assessment Strategies Learning Collaborative
Sign up for four interactive sessions hosted by Renaye James Healthcare Advisors to learn about suicide prevention and risk assessment strategies and tools. Visit the website to learn more or register by Wednesday, September 20.
