PublicServiceRecognitionWeek
ThankYou

Happy Public Service Recognition Week!

Since 1985, Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW) has been celebrated the first full week of May to honor the men and women who serve our nation as federal, state, and local government employees. Take a moment to recognize your fellow public servants this week for all their hard work. And pat yourself on the back for your own contributions!

OHCIO Celebrates Take Your Child to Work Day

OHCIO held a small gathering at 5600 Fishers Lane on Thursday, April 27, to celebrate Take Your Child to Work Day. Six OHCIO staff members brought 10 children to join them for a few short activities. They had breakfast, made name tags, illustrated pictures depicting their parent at work, and chatted about what they would like to do when they grow up by playing a game of “Would You Rather?” (PDF).

Following these activities, they took a short tour of the building, stopping for pictures in the Atrium. The group later enjoyed a lunch in the cafeteria together.

Change

Terminology Change: Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD)

At the recommendation of subject matter experts and with the approval of leadership across the bureau, we will now use the term “medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD)” instead of “medication-assisted treatment (MAT).”

SAMHSA describes MOUD as the use of medications including buprenorphine, methadone, and naltrexone to treat opioid use disorder. While the term MAT was used to convey that certain medications could “assist” alongside other forms of therapy in promoting recovery, experts have shifted to viewing these medications as a core component of treatment. MOUD is thus becoming the preferred term. We will use the term going forward, and it will also be used in documents such as the forthcoming 2023 UDS Manual.

For up-to-date guidance on terminology and usage, remember to consult the BPHC Style Guide (PDF).

Meet Jason Lin, Management Analyst, Strategic Services, OHCIO:

JasonLinsmall

When did you join the Bureau of Primary Health Care? How does your current role contribute to the Health Center Program?

I started in BPHC as a Pathways intern back in 2016, and I returned to the bureau on April 24.

I gather requirements for internal supplemental investments, support system enhancement processes, and partner with OSBO to ensure OHCIO team members have what they need to efficiently complete their work.

Which game show would you most like to appear on?
“Survivor”

What is your dream vacation?
There is not a specific location, but my dream vacation consists of traveling to a few places over a period of time, having good people around me, and going on food adventures trying new food/cuisine from around the world.

What is your favorite quote, motto, personal mantra, or the best advice you ever received?
One of my favorite quotes is by Winston Churchill: “Success is not final; failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.”

Learn more about Jason, and email BPHC Insider to submit your name for a future Getting to Know.

Did You Know?

Credentialing requirements apply to other clinical staff. “Other clinical staff” are clinical staff positions that do not require licensure or certification by the health center’s state, territory, or jurisdiction. Examples of other clinical staff could include medical assistants or community health workers.
