Happy Public Service Recognition Week! You should be very proud of the critical work you do every day that helps more than 30 million people in medically underserved communities all over the country receive much-needed health care. Public service is about selflessly serving others, and BPHC staff truly exemplify this principle!
Over the past three years, in particular, your resilience is something I have continued to be inspired by as a leader. Each day, you continue to bring your best thinking and effort to work, despite evolving challenges as we navigate out of the height of the pandemic, and our being asked repeatedly by Congress and the Administration to take on new initiatives. The BPHC 2022 Year in Review is a remarkable testament to many of your recent accomplishments.
This year, I remain impressed with how we are continuing to innovate and try new approaches to problem-solving. I’m keeping tabs on all the work central to our BPHC Priorities and have been struck by how much progress was made in numerous areas while I was on detail to the CDC.
Customer experience continues to be a central priority, both for me and Administrator Johnson. I encourage you to check out the Partnership for Public Service’s 2022 rankings for Best Places to Work in the Federal Government, where HHS scored first among large agencies in the “customer service” category. In the agency subcomponent rankings, HRSA also scored very well in customer service, coming in at #17 of 409 agencies. Without each of you, none of this is possible. I’m excited that together, we’re continuing to build and refine what a consistently great customer experience looks like for health centers!
Let’s use Public Service Recognition Week to recognize our colleagues and fellow public servants who inspire us. Here are some suggestions:
Taking care of yourself is also critical for success in public service. Please remember to prioritize your own health and well-being. You are valuable to us and BPHC would not be what it is without every one of you! Join me and other HHS colleagues in a half-hour virtual total body workout today at noon ET! Other activities planned this week from noon-12:30 p.m. ET include:
I am honored and grateful to be your colleague. Thank you for everything you do! I appreciate the difference you make in our highest-need communities.
Sincerely, Jim
