Opportunity
to Provide Feedback on Emergency Preparedness and Response
The HHS Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR)
Technical Resources, Assistance Center, and Information Exchange (TRACIE) is
examining the current role of health centers in supporting the health and
medical response to disasters or emergencies. ASPR TRACIE is conducting a
survey for health center leaders from across the country to learn about
capacity, willingness, and preparedness to respond and impediments to
participation. This anonymous, online 15-minute
survey is
a great opportunity to share your insights. Act now as the survey closes on
Wednesday, June 27. If you have any questions, please contact the study
administrator at askasprtracie@hhs.gov.
National
Survey for Health Centers
Clinical Directors and CEOs received the 2018 National Survey of
Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) with instructions to complete it
online or by mail. The aim of the study (which began in 2009 and repeated in
2013) is to better identify the challenges FQHCs face and to develop targeted
initiatives to support health centers in providing high-quality care for the
underserved.
The National Association of
Community Health Centers (NACHC), a HRSA-funded National Cooperative Agreement
(NCA), plans to use the survey results in their development of a national
training and technical assistance strategy to better meet the needs of health
centers. Robust national FQHC participation will help ensure that the results
will represent the real-world challenges facing FQHCs and enable The
Commonwealth Fund to identify effective ways to support them. If you have any
questions, please email info@commonwealthfundfqhc.org or call James Noack at 1-800-633-1986 Ext.

HUD Policy Brief: Recovery Housing
This
recent HUD Policy Brief from the Corporation for
Supportive Housing, a HRSA-funded NCA, highlights the impact and potential for
health centers that engage with Recovery Housing and residential treatment
programs. Recovery Housing provides an abstinence-focused and peer-supported
community for people recovering from SUD. It can support those leaving a
treatment program or assist those who may relapse while in housing back into
treatment programs if needed.
Agricultural Workers
Disproportionally Affected by Trauma
The National Advisory Council on Migrant Health urges health
centers that serve migrant and seasonal agricultural workers (MSAWs) to adopt
Trauma Informed Care as a standard of practice.
MSAWs
and their children face numerous sources of stress. Trauma is a near universal
experience for individuals with behavioral health problems. Childhood trauma is
associated with multiple risk factors for several leading causes of death in
adults. (For example, the Adverse
Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study findings reveal a
relationship between ACEs and negative health and well-being outcomes across
the life course.) However, trauma is treatable. Health centers serving MSAWs
can access information, trainings, and other resources on Trauma Informed Care:

Farmworker Justice, a HRSA-funded NCA, produced an issue
