U.S.
Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) Updates
USPSTF seeks comments on a draft recommendation statement and draft evidence
review on screening for intimate partner violence, elder abuse, and abuse of
vulnerable adults. Clinicians should screen all women of reproductive age for
intimate partner violence and provide or refer those who screen positive to
ongoing support services. The Task Force found that there is not enough
evidence to determine the benefits or harms of screening for elder abuse or
abuse of vulnerable adults. Both the draft recommendation statement and draft
evidence review are available
for public comment until Monday, May
21.
USPSTF also recently released a final recommendation
statement on vitamin D, calcium, or combined supplementation for the primary
prevention of fractures in community-dwelling adults. The Task Force found
insufficient evidence to recommend for or against vitamin D and calcium
supplementation to prevent fractures in most adults at higher doses and
recommends against them at lower doses. Read
the recommendation and the evidence
on which it is based.
