Can You Work Half-Time or at Multiple NHSC Sites?
The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Loan Repayment Program offers a variety of service options for applicants. You may work full-time or half-time at one or more NHSC-approved sites. Learn more about these service options.
Full-Time vs. Half-Time

Full-time participants must work a minimum of 40 hours/week. Of those hours, 32 hours/week must be spent providing direct patient care at the assigned practice site(s) and 8 hours/week can be spent performing clinical or non-clinical practice-related duties.

Half-time participants must work a minimum of 20 hours/week. Of those hours, 16 hours/week must be spent providing direct patient care at the assigned practice site(s) and 4 hours/week can be spent performing clinical or non-clinical practice-related duties.
*There are some exceptions to these hourly requirements for certain disciplines/specialties (pediatric dentists & OBGYNS) and site types (Critical Access Hospitals & Teaching Health Centers). For additional details, please review pages 23 - 31 in the Application and Program Guidance.
Working at Multiple NHSC-Approved Sites
Before applying for the NHSC Loan Repayment Program, you must be working at an NHSC-approved service site(s) or have accepted an offer of employment and will begin working at the site(s) and meeting the NHSC clinical practice requirements by July 18, 2018.
If you work at more than one site (e.g., several satellite clinics), you must include each location in your application. To receive the highest award level for working in a high-need HPSA, all service sites where you will satisfy the NHSC service obligation must have a HPSA score of 14 or above.
