Job Summary:

As an Equipment Specialist, you will serve as a technical authority in the development, application, and interpretation of Heating/Ventilating/Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems and equipment inspection and program evaluations, specializing in HVAC systems/equipment, central refrigeration plants, and maintenance management. In this role, the incument will assist the Property Manager in performing the day to day oversight and coordination of the operation of all of mechanical type integrated systems within the building envelope, with primary emphasis on contracting out preventive maintenance, repairs and equipment replacement as needed. Such equipment and systems include: heating, ventilating, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, pumping, sewage, domestic water, integrated alarms, etc., interior, and exterior structural maintenance of facilities. Positions are located in the Public Buildings Service within field offices located in Pierre, SD and Bismarck, ND. This is a developmental position. If selected at the GS-09 grade level, employee will receive close supervision on unusual assignments and completed work will be reviewed more closely while at the same time providing opportunity for the employee to gain the full range of knowledge and judgment required for full performance at the target grade level of GS-11. When the supervisor believes the employee is fully capable of performing satisfactorily the more difficult responsibilities of the position, and the employee is eligible and/or qualified for the higher grade, the employee may be promoted non-competitively to GS-11.
