FPDS Modernization Happening on July 25, 2025 - ezSearch to be Available in SAM.gov

GSA’s Integrated Award Environment will take the next step in FPDS.gov modernization on July 25, 2025 by adding ezSearch to SAM.gov, resulting in the functionality being available in both places.  While the search functionality will exist in both systems for a period of time, FPDS.gov will remain the only authoritative source for contract data searching.  ezSearch allows users to search federal procurement data and to filter by keyword, agency, and legal business name.  ezSearch results are available to anyone, including contractors, agencies, and the public.

The ezSearch functionality will be in SAM.gov after July 25 as part of a soft launch and it will eventually be moved solely to SAM.gov.  During this transition time, the data will be identical in both systems, but there will be a 24 hour delay in SAM.gov.

The Federal Procurement Data System (available at FPDS.gov) remains the authoritative source for government procurement data, mostly used for policy and trend analysis.  FPDS.gov contains publicly available information about all unclassified contract actions exceeding the micro-purchase threshold and any modifications to those actions that change previously reported data, regardless of dollar value.

Contract data reports (the reporting function of FPDS.gov) was integrated into SAM.gov in October of 2020. Integrating ezSearch is the next step in the modernization process.

While ezSearch will be decommissioned from FPDS.gov by the end of FY 2025 (targeted), the remaining functions of FPDS.gov will be integrated into SAM.gov in the near future.

With the soft launch of ezSearch in SAM.gov, we've also made some improvements to the functionality, including:

  • Creating effective navigation between Contract Opportunities, Contract Awards and Subaward Reporting domains.

  • Offering the search filters that are widely used.

  • Developing Pickers for search filters, the functionality that does not exist in FPDS.gov.

  • Developing search filters to be more intuitive and to allow partial searches which do not exist in FPDS.gov.

We’ve made these improvements available during the soft launch to ensure users have ample time to get used to the changes. To help with the changes, we will hold an online session soon to walk users through all the new features - likely in September.

More improvements and changes are coming soon to the functionality in SAM.gov.  Stay tuned to SAM.gov/IAE Interact for more information.
